Why tallow

Pure, natural tallow.

For most of human history, tallow was the cooking fat of choice — stable, nourishing, and deeply versatile. No toxins, no seed oils, just nature's best. We're putting it back on the table.

    Regenerative pasture

Our cattle live outdoors on rich, permanent pasture — grazing the way nature intended. Grass-fed tallow is naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, with a fatty acid profile you won't find in grain-finished fat.

  • 02

    Nothing added, nothing hidden

Not bleached, not deodorised, not hydrogenised. No seed oils, no chemicals, no preservatives. Sugar free, gluten free, non-GMO. Just one ingredient: pure beef tallow, rendered properly.

  • 03

    If you wouldn't eat it…

…you shouldn't absorb it through your skin. Tallow's fatty acid profile is remarkably close to human sebum. That's why it works — for the kitchen and the skin you live in.

The St Low herd — South Devon and Aberdeen Angus cattle grazing parkland pasture near Bath at golden hour

Our story

Four generations,
one piece of land.

On the edge of Bath, our family has farmed for four generations — South Devon and Aberdeen Angus cattle on permanent pasture, alongside pigs, sheep, chickens, and arable crops. A proper mixed farm.

The tallow starts here: suet hand-cut by our butchers, slow-rendered in small batches. Nothing travels far. The fat in the jar started life as grass under our boots.

"If you wouldn't eat the ingredients, you shouldn't absorb them through your skin."

Questions

Beef tallow,
plainly answered.

What is beef tallow used for?

Beef tallow is rendered beef fat, and for most of history it was the cooking fat of choice — for roasting, frying, searing and seasoning cast iron. We use it for roast potatoes, chips and Yorkshire puddings. Our raw tallow is golden, with a subtle, sweet beefy smell; our washed tallow is triple-washed until it's pure white and odourless, which makes it the one for home baking and for skin.

Is tallow good for skin?

Tallow makes a rich, simple moisturiser — one ingredient, nothing added. Its fats are close in make-up to the natural oils in your own skin, so a little helps soften dry skin and leaves it feeling supple. For skin, choose our washed tallow: it's triple-washed until pure white and odourless. It's a moisturiser, not a treatment for any skin condition, so if your skin is sensitive, try a small patch first.

Washed tallow

Is it grass-fed?

Yes. Every jar comes from our own South Devon and Aberdeen Angus cattle, raised on permanent pasture on our family farm on the edge of Bath. No grain finishing, no feedlots. We don't buy in fat or blend suppliers, so every jar traces back to the same herd and the same land.

How should I store it?

Keep unopened jars in a cool, dry place. Once opened, keep the jar in the fridge and use it within 8 weeks. Always scoop it out with a clean spoon or knife, and check the label for the best-before date.
